When is opening day at Big White? November 24th, 2022!
Nothing is more exciting than the first day of the ski and board season at your local mountain resort! Big White Ski Resort has announced that the official opening day at Big White is slated for November 24th, 2022! Get your wax out and dig out the winter gear, we’re hoping this is a season like none other!
New owners of Snowshoe Sam’s at Big White
Sam’s is a staple at Big White. Loved by locals and lauded by visitors. There will be even more to love as the local Nixon Hospitality Group recently announced that they had purchased the pub. This is the same group behind Kelowna’s favourite BNA pub and other downtown establishments. We’re excited to see the vision for this well-loved local pub.
And a New, but familiar owner of the Globe Tapas
Locally renowned Chef Ross Derrick has taken over ownership of the Globe! This favourite dining option in the Village Center is a go-to for locals and visitors! Fun fact – Ross was the original chef when the Globe first opened – what a great story!
More food and beverage changes
Even more positive changes for food and beverage options with the operation of The Woods, Clocktower Coffee Co., Blackforest Day Lodge, Moonlight Bistro, and Happy Valley Day Lodge coming back under the umbrella of Big White. Previously operated by Compass Group for one season Big White is happy to announce the return of the Food & Beverage Department to a self-managed model!
Sad news
And finally, there was some sad news for Big White at the end of the summer with the announcement that Peter Robert Schumann, died suddenly Friday, August 26, 2022, at his home at Big White Ski Resort, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Peter’s father was Desmond Schumann, who purchased Big White in 1985. Peter retired from being Big White’s president in 2014. He will be missed by many in his community.
